Catch Up Post!

Ok, I am shamefully behind in posting pics from the last week, I blame my dog, or something :)

Bart managed to get both Arman Finesmith and Blindboink Parham to play two separate parties in Cair for my birthday. And our great friends came for both. I have a great husband and great friends :)

Arman is just absolutely the best ragtime/early blues player you will hear in SL, and Blindboink is absolutely the best country blues/piedmont blues picker in SL…and both of them are tops at their game in RL too. Absolutely amazing! They did amazing shows as they always do. Both are such sweeties too!

We played the Woodstock sim, which is a great fun place, and played at our good friend Lauren’s place too…Lauren does the BEST comedy in SL.

Derek kidnapped Ziffy Zarf the other night and dragged him to Cair to play (it didn’t work Derek, he didn’t blame us lol). Ziffy is an amazing blues player who does guitar and the best harp you will hear in SL, for sure.  He’s just started playing in SL and we’re all just wondering what took him so long! Oh, and if you get Ziffy and Blind together, you’re guaranteed mischief and mayhem :)

We’ve had a great time the last couple of weeks, thank you all so much for the best birthday EVER :)

Thanksgiving and Whirl’s Birthday

Whirl's BirthdayThanks y’all for coming out to one or more of our performances. And especially for coming to whirligig’s RL birthday celebration.

The fun began on Friday evening at the Gaslight at 6 PM SL (SL is the same as Pacific TIme), there were so many friends and new folks there. You are all really great folks.

Saturday we played first at the Cookie Farm at 5 PM SL, our first appearance there since October. This was our first regular gig in SL and we do enjoy playing there. Thinkerer Melville has alway been so helpful to us, and we appreciate the opportunity to play there as well.

Late on Saturday we played at Woodstock, around 11 PM SL time, we had lots of folks come to hear us, even met some of the hobos that we do not know (since we are never up that late).

Then on Sunday Arman Finesmith played for whirligig’s Birthday celebration at 6 PM SL in Cair Paravel. We played lots of the songs we really like. Arman is such a fine musician that he is just a joy to listen to. If you haven’t heard him, he keeps a list of his next performances in his profile. Check it out, you will love it.

The celebration for whirl continues tonight, when Blindboink Parham comes to Cair Paravel to play for whirl’s birthday as well, because of the holiday Blindboink could not come on Sunday, and I am glad we were able to get him booked, as he is another very fine musician. So come out tonight (12/1/09) at 6 PM SL to Cair Paravel.

SL Burned Down Cafe

We played here last week, and loved it! Doc Shackleton is the owner and works at the RL Burned Out Cafe. We had a great time there and felt right at home in the hobo atmosphere :) See the pics below and go there: http://slurl.com/secondlife/MOON%20DAZE/197/197/27

Some history from their notecard:

Welcome to the SL Burned Down Cafe.  Based on a real life outdoor cafe on Madeline Island in Lake Superior in northwestern Wisconsin (USA), the SL version is a close approximation!

Open only in the summertime, the Burned Down Cafe is a local “hot spot” for fun in La Pointe, the only town on the island.   Year round island residents number about 3,500 in the summertime, but the population drops to less than 200 when the thermometer drops to below zero temperatures in January and February.

Pictures from recent gigs

Here’s some recent pics, I’m woefully behind on posting from recent gigs! We’ve been busy playing at Inga’s store, doing a weekly gig at the Gaslight (thanks to theDove Rhode, who is a real sweetie!), and we had a great time at the Green Lantern Bayou party this weekend…the GL know how to have fun, check out the great swamp build they put together.

We also recently played at a very hobo-worthy club called the Burned Down Cafe, which actually approximates a crazy RL build on a lake in Wisconsin. Awesome, awesome place! Run by a really great guy named doctor Shackleton, who also runs the RL club. We’re hoping to play there more, and I’ll go take some pics of it soon just to post here because the build is so cool :)

We played 4 gigs and 5 hours this weekend. It made me hungry!

Baggz makes great vids! Check out his Youtube channel and his main site. Thanks Baggz!

Hoboween 2009, Ladonna’s Club pics

Hoboween!

Hoboween!

Wow a great weekend. Hoboween on Hobo Island Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a three day party that went off very well and was lots of fun, thanks to a great build from Aitolda Cooljoke and much organization from Bonehead Goalpost the hobo queen and her assorted hobo minions. There were lots of great musicians including Groucho and Blindboink, and Lauren did a show too (in an exquisite skull dress). Check out our Flickr page widget below for pics and I’m going to stick some slideshows here. We played Saturday night. There were about 50 hobos in the sim at the height of things and it was a great crowd. We had a blast. We even got to judge the costume contest! Blindboink closed out the night…I think he was a bit taken aback by the crowd of crazies, but he’s crazy himself so he got into it and did great.

Sunday we played at fellow hobo Ladonna’s club…ClubStudio 3, I think I have that name right. A cool little place in I believe a Dutch? sim? Ladonna is always great to play for, so sweet and makes everyone feel at home. Nice little club, I hope she’ll have us back!

Thanks to Nolan Finney, Inga Wind and Riddleray Rembrandt for the pics :)

Burning Life 2009

bartwhirl2BLWe played at SL’s Burning Life 2009 yesterday on the center stage (somehow I think Lauren had something to do with that, if so, thank you Lauren!) It is a pretty interesting and polished build this year, and as always, lagtastic. We had a pretty good crowd and only chased off a few of them so thanks to those who stayed and hung out with us, it was fun! Not to mention a challenge with lag, playing at the intersection of 4 sims, and trying to take photos when everyone and everything was blurry. Thanks to Nolan for his patience in taking these pictures :) Thank you to Nolan, Inga, Derek, Lauren, Spanky, Chili, Gumby, and everyone that was there.

I’m hoping now that the performances and initial rush for BL are over maybe we can go back and check out the great builds…there are some especially creative and fancy ones this year. We couldn’t stay for any of the ‘burning’ parties. I’m still pouting about that :)

Sunday Tittertat’s House Warming

Inga Live

Inga sings and whirl watches amazed!

Sunday Whirl and I played for an hour at Tittertat’s House warming party on her new land. So many hobo’s we have not seen in I do not know how long turned out for the party, was so good to see old friends again, as well as meet new friends :)

Grace McDunnough played a set after us, she is great and we always enjoy hearing her.

Happy House Warming, Titter! Are you sure we can’t burn the house now?

Saturday at Ladonna and Cookie farm

Live @ BurningLife

October 18th we played at Ladonna March’s Burning Life Stage a giant table with all kinds of goodies on it. Really nicely done. Whirl and I had revamped our lineup of songs. We spent the morning at the Arlington guitar show in RL. Whirl finally picked up her Republic “Highway 61″ resonator. These are not available yet on Republic’s website, but somehow she managed to get one.

Tricone is the Beastie, Hwy 61 is the Brat!

Tricone is the Beastie, Hwy 61 is the Brat!

So in addition to an all new song lineup she got a chance to play the new beastie. (Edit added by whirl: here is the guitar. Isn’t it pwetty? It’s little but it’s LOUD and sounds great, easy to play, Frank outdid himself on this one…I LOVE IT.  I have serial #00007 so bart is calling it the secret agent guitar :) Go to Republic Guitars and pester Frank!)

We sure had fun playing for Ladonna’s friends and breaking in whirls guitar was a hoot too.

We also played the Cookie Farm on Saturday to small turn out but we all had fun never the less.

Lots of our old friends were there which is always the best part about playing in SL. Oh and the parking is free too.

Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy

Whirligig and I went to the House of Blues in Dallas last night to hear Buddy Guy. Moreland and Arbuckle a band from Kansas were the opening act and they belted out some of the best original blues I have heard for sometime. Aaron Moreland played from an arsenal of guitars, including a box guitar while Dustin Arbuckle sang and played the harmonica. The cigarbox guitar has a single bass string similar to a banjo but the other strings are guitar strings, so it can fill in for a bass nicely.

Buddy Guy came on stage next playing quite a few songs from his latest CD “Skin Deep”. He is a great showman and can work a crowd like no one else. His vocals were spot on and powerful and his guitar playing is as good as it ever was, maybe better.

Our seats were in the balcony and at one point in the show Buddy walked from the stage and came up into the center aisle of the balcony still playing the whole time. A miracle of wireless guitar and microphones.

A nice touch. Was the first time I had ever heard him play and I hope not the last.
