Russell Eponym (Russell Taylor Ashby) is a British folk singer currently resident in North Wales. He was one of the first live musicians in Second L ife and has performed in most of the major venues. Primarily influenced by the British and European folk tradition, Russell has played in bands and ensembles covering many musical genres and as a solo artist and street singer in London, Paris and Vienna.

As a musician, Russell’s major influences include Davy Graham, Bert Jansch, John Renbourne and Mark Knopfler. It is not surprising, therefore, that he is a versatile and accomplished guitarist. His unique sound is characterized by his meticulous fingerpicking style, his soft lulling voice and charming British stage presence. Russell also plays mandolin, banjo and harmonica, though it is as a guitar player that he has become so well known and popular in Second Life.

Russell is also a songwriter and poet and his many fine compositions have become regularly requested at his performances. His songs have an enchanting, lyrical quality and musical flow which have been likened to the sounds of ‘summer mountain streams’. His repertoire also contains many songs by other writers such as Donovan, Dylan and Knopfler, but Russell always manages to recreate something in his inimitable style.

Russell also enjoys close contact with his audiences and will often take a few minutes to tell a story or to explain the meanings in a song. He is always articulate and always tasteful in his choice of words.

Relay for Life sims, with a camp for the Lollygaggers team Walking Tall for a Cure and their build, open today. You must be in the RFL volunteer group if you come today (see below). The walk is tomorrow. Please consider coming out to support the Lollies in this great cause! It’s fun and it’s the culmination of a lot of hard work by the very talented Lolly/Hobos involved. Hello all you wonderful Relay for Life Walking Tall For A Cure Team members!

Just writing to give you a heads up, the builders have started building out our plot for the relay weekend. I believe the Relay sims will open to us all on Friday the July 15th.

****** Important dates and times *******

The Relay itself starts Sat. July 16th with the Opening Cememony at 10:00 am

The first of the Themed Walks starts at 11:00 am with the Survivor/Caregiver honor walk.

If you are a survivor or a caregiver this walk just for you, if you want to walk we will be there to cheer you on.

The REMEMBER walk starts at  9pm  July 16 and is the Luminaria Ceremony.

We all walk the track in silence and remember those who have lost their battle with cancer.

The Relay officially ends with the Closing Ceremony – 10:00 am July  17th.

After that the sims stay open for a few days so you can check out all the stuff you missed when you were relaying or at camp cheering people on.

*******  About the Laps   ******

The other laps are fun/silly themes, like beach and 50′s and stuff like that, there is also a horse and pony one this year.

So if you have a horse to ride or horse/pony vie to wear you may want to do that lap.

There are some horse makers selling horses for Relay fundraising, but I am not sure who they are.

Last year we spent a lot of time on the side lines shouting out to people doing their laps, which made them very happy.

Many stopped by to tell us how much they appreciated us being there and how much the looked forward to getting to our camp.

The theme is Seasons of Hope, we are in the winter themed sims.

I have included and LM to our plot and the notecard containing the times and themes for the themed walks.

******* Some Advice For Walking The Track  *******

The track is a huge lag fest!

So here are some tricks to doing a laps without crashing.

Reduce your draw distance to the minimum, you can look at the builds later on when you are not doing laps.

Set your graphics setting to low and turn off particles.

Turn off shadows if you use them.

Use avatar impostors and you can even mute them if you care to, all but your friends of course.

If you have created something you would like to sell at the relay, let me know and we will put it out for you.

If you have questions, you can IM me or Kil we will try to answer them.

There are lots of other activities and fundraisers going on the whole time.
